Kevin Bridges – Lowry Theatre, Salford
Reviewer: John Roberts
The Public Reviews Rating:

It almost feels a little redundant having to write a review for a production when you know by the time it gets published the whole tour will have been finished and complete, but as we know that is what the job entails.
Opening the show as the First half warm up is Geordie comedian Gavin Webster, his strong working class material seemed to split the audience into two clear camps, those who found him funny and those who didn’t. What he did do though was successfully get the audience waiting in anticipation for the main man of the evening.
At just 23 Kevin Bridges has started to take the comedy world by storm, having never done any comedy before stepping up to do his first open mic night in 2004, he has quickly found a place where not only is he comfortable but has been welcomed by some of the biggest comedy clubs in the world. In 2005 Kevin reached the final of Channel 4′s ‘So you think you’re funny?’ competition and although not wining firmly placed him as one of the biggest young comedians of our generation.
Kevin Bridges is undeniably charismatic and you can’t help but warm to the cheeky way he delivers his material, whether that be the real use of Condoms, The plight of the Panda, or having the joys of waiting for his dad to switch over the sky channel so the boys can have some fun!
Most of Bridges set is built around memories of him as a youngster, which is understandable as at just 23 you don’t have much worldly experience to draw upon, but at times this means the material being delivered in this one hour set tends to have a rather samey feel about it…not that it isn’t funny…it genuinely is, but Bridges could do with having a few more twists and turns in the set to stop it feeling slightly generic. Another slight problem was that at times the material seemed to come to a rather abrupt and sudden stop, which meant the flow of the material wasn’t as smooth as some of his more experienced contemporaries, but this will only come with time and experience.
Bridges is a name to watch over the next few years, already having appearances on Mock the Week and Michael Mcintyre’s Comedy Roadshow this young and very funny comedian is destined for bigger and better things!
