Beckys Blog: It can’t be that hard…can it?

Over The Rainbow is the brainchild of Lord Lloyd Webber, and I was lucky enough to be almost front row at the live recording on Saturday night. I say almost because I was second row from the front of the stage, just to the left of the judges Charlotte Church, John Partridge and Sheila Hancock. Plus the Lord himself, perched atop a gold throne of course. And it was from this prime-time spot on prime-time BBC that I got to watch the action of the show.

I am very easily dazzled by the magic of behind the scenes TV, as soon as I stepped into Studio B I was in awe of the bright lights and sparkly set complete with Godzilla sized red ruby slippers at the back of the stage (smaller than I thought, but isn’t everything on TV?) One thing I will say is that I have found a new respect for the contestants. This showbiz lark can’t be that hard, I foolishly thought. It turns out I can’t even clap in time while they are all-singing, all-dancing in front of live television cameras. So we already knew that my yellow brick road of destiny wasn’t veering towards life on the stage, so I’ll stick to writing about it instead.
